With the age of new technology we expect there to be updated phones, cameras and televisions, but how about updating food?
Not long from now we will be seeing purple tomatoes hitting the supermarkets and being able to buy them. So how about the change from red tomatoes to purple. Will this mean that we will now have purple tomato ketchup and purple tomato puree on our pizzas? All will be revealed in the near future.

Purple Tomatoes have Cancer fighting benifits.

The purple tomatoes have been genetically modified and have been tested to show that they may have the benefits of tomatoes, blackberries and blueberries all put together. Studies have shown that the health benefits could mean eating purple tomatoes could help against cancer as well as inflammation in the body. It has always been a fact that red fruits and vegetables have always had a lot of benefits and vitamins in them that do help fight cancer. The difference with the purple tomatoes is that they contain a new pigment in them called anthocyanin. This will then give the same benefits as eating blueberries and cranberries but in a vegetable that is on average eaten more.

Other studies have shown that the purple tomato is actually tastier than the red tomato and that it also has a longer lifespan therefore will last longer to eat, instead of it going off so quickly. Tomatoes are a popular food source, being used as an ingredient in many popular dishes such as Italian pasta dishes as well as being a popular sauce to dip your chips into.
But how will the public feel about introducing a genetically modified food into their diets? Will they see the benefits or will they be worried about other effects of eating such foods? Is it safer just to carry on eating red tomatoes along with other fruits such as cranberries and blueberries that carry benefits, instead of trying to have all the benefits in one particular food source? Maybe in a few years when these purple tomatoes have been trialled and tested for the advantages as well as the disadvantages then more people will be willing to try them for themselves.

If the purple tomato turns out to be a success and does give all the health benefits that it is supposed to, then the future will only look bright in other foods being created for us to eat to receive all the right health benefits. Once upon a time some people would never of imagined being able to microwave food, and now we are having genetically modified foods so we can always wonder what’s next.
